Cats, man

Sometimes, it seems like all I do is write about how annoying my pets are. That's probably because pets--while awesome--are pretty dang annoying. Cats are especially annoying. They each have their own little quirks. You might have a cat who is a barfer. Or one who is a revenge pee-er. (I've had one of those. They're terrible). A cat who bops you on the nose in the middle of the night when they want food. What ever annoying thing your cat does is cute, because it's your cat and they're cute. ...

Snow day musings

I aspire to approach life the way my dog approaches a snow day. And no, not to bound through it with unbridled abandon. That’s part of my aspiration, but not the whole of it. And neither is it the whole of life. My dog, Seamus, is 45 pounds and will be 15 in March. In human years, he’s approximately George Burns. He can’t see very well, is deaf, has arthritis in his hips, has some nerve thing in his back that makes his back legs give out occasionally, and has the beginnings of dement...

Blessings

I’m not normally the type of person who uses the word, “blessings.” Not to imply that I’m not thankful for things in my life or feel gratitude on a daily basis (I do!), but to me, blessings rise to a different level. Life Moves Pretty Fast

It's been a while since I've written a blog post. If you follow me on social media, I've been quiet there, too. That's 'cause a lot has been happening in my life over the course of the past month. This post should get you up to speed. First off--no, I'm not pregnant. It's the first question everyone seems to ask when I say I have news. Which is fair, I guess. I'm 37 years old and madly in love. But that's not the news. [caption id="attachment_1140" align="aligncenter" width="576"] The Viki...

On Writing

I’m working on a novel that’s a stretch for the me. The storyline is different, the subject will be controversial, and I’m experimenting with point of view. Plodding along and haunted by my own fears of failure, I decided to listen to On Writing by Stephen King, which anyone who’s read it has said is the best craft book out there. Hell, I figured, even if I don’t learn anything, I need the inspiration. I’m listening to it on audio. King is a great narrator of his own work. His gra...

Acceptance and the Contacts Experiment

Originally posted on Harlequin SuperAuthors page (http://www.superauthors.com/2016/02/acceptance-and-contacts-experiment.html) Hey everyone! It's been a while since I posted over here. No excuses, just busy and distracted, like everyone else. Getting back into the swing of writing on the blog has been one of my goals for the new year and I'm glad to be working my way to that goal! On to the post! I wear glasses. I've worn glasses since I was in second grade. I was in Mrs. Ohlensehlen's ...
